California artist Susan Bahary’s commissioned and limited-edition bronze and fine art acrylic sculptures convey a full spectrum of human emotions in sculptures depicting mainly animals – dogs, horses, a lion. Bahary’s monument and representational
sculptures of show dog champions, war dogs and law enforcement canines (“K-9s”), and top equine breeds – from Arabian to thoroughbred racehorse to Hunter/Jumper – are known for their effect on viewers, who have been moved to tears, or laughter.
The whimsy of Smoky, a monument bronze of a Yorkshire terrier sitting in a soldier’s helmet, entertains like the real Smoky, a World War II hero who was also the first documented therapy dog and a TV performer. Bahary’s war dog memorial bronze, Always Faithful, and her later California police dog monument, Faithful Partner, convey the noble devotion of “man’s best friend” in the most extreme of life-and-death situations.
Arabian Heart (Mare and Stallion), From the Heart (Foal), and the gentle Innocence (Foal and Girl) express the love between male and female, of mother for child, and of newborn horse and young girl. The inspiring Emerging Spirit, an equine study using bronze techniques or acrylic, expresses the joy of first freedom.
Bahary’s creativity as a sculptress draws on her background as a former breeder of Afghan show dogs, and is given full voice from her fine arts education at New York University and additional training as a pianist and singer.
We take delight in introducing you to Susan Bahary, internationally acclaimed sculptress.
